[Enews] Holiday Inn of Oneonta to Sponsor Career Expo/Otsego County Chamber of Commerce Weekly Update

Dear Members,

Do you know a middle or high school student that would like to start and run their own REAL business?  If so, they might be a great candidate for the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!)!

The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce is a proud partner and supporter of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, and as such we are thrilled to offer a $100 tuition discount to children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to our Chamber members company employees!
If you are currently unfamiliar, YEA! is a groundbreaking and exciting year long class that transforms middle and high school students into real, confident entrepreneurs. Throughout the class, students develop business ideas, write business plans, conduct market research, pitch their plans to a panel of investors, and actually launch and run their own real, legal, fully formed companies and social movements. Complete with dynamic guest speakers from the local business community and exciting behind-the-scenes trips to local companies, the fun, projects-based YEA! approach empowers students to take charge of their futures in a profound way.

YEA! meets once a week at Hartwick College on Wednesdays from 4-7pm beginning in November and ending in May.  If you know a middle or high school student who you think would be excited by this amazing opportunity, we invite you to encourage them to apply!

Please find attached a YEA! application.  Please note the application deadline has been extended since this is a new program to our community this year, to Wednesday October 29th, and that applications are accepted on a rolling basis.  Enrollment is limited.

Tuition for the program is $350, minus the $100 tuition discount — $250 for our Chamber member company employees!
For more information, please visit the Otsego County Chamber website at otsegocc.com, or contact Barbara Ann Heegan, (Otsego County Chamber of Commerce President & CEO) directly at (607) 432-4500 x202 or info@otsegocc.com.

Holiday Inn of Oneonta to sponsor first CAREER EXPO for 8th, 9th and 10th grade students!

The Otsego County Chamber will hold its first Career Expo for 8th, 9th and 10th grade students on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Holiday Inn of Oneonta.  Already we have 700 students signed up! The purpose of the Career Expo is to provide a well-rounded depiction of career opportunities in our region, the jobs that may be available to them when they graduate and the education and skills need to acquire those jobs. The Expo will also provide you with an opportunity to meet students who may have the potential to be an intern, job shadow at your company, or may be a future prospect for employment.

Several colleges from our region will also be present to share information on how their degree and certificate programs relate to the various career opportunities you present. Colleges will be paired with business sectors at the Expo so that students can see a connection between the careers in our region and the educational opportunities also available in our region.

The Expo will be from 9:00 am – 12:00 p.m. and we will stagger the arrival times of the participating schools so that we have will have a continuous flow of participants. Schools will plan to attend for 1 ½ to 2 hours to give students ample time to visit with the exhibitors and attend the mini-workshops.

CNY Mobile Marketing and Bishop Printshop Partner to offer NEW CrossChannel Marketing Program, ShopLocalOtsego

OTSEGO COUNTY, NY (10/08/14): Central New York Mobile Marketing (CNYMM) of Hartwick, NY and the Bishop Printshop in Edmeston, NY have partnered to offer a new cross-channel marketing program: ShopLocalOtsego.com.  ShopLocalOtsego.com pairs collaborative Every Door Direct Mail programs with a weekly email marketing campaign.

The Program, ShopLocalOtsego.com, is currently in the ‘pre-launch’ stage – subscribing both shoppers and businesses.  Otsego County residents are encouraged to go online and subscribe to our email list to receive information on local offers starting in late November.  Businesses can visit the website and sign up to be part of the pilot direct mail opportunity that targets the Oneonta region – one full page in a coupon booklet that will be mailed to every residence in Oneonta in time for Small Business Saturday, November 29 and the ability to message the growing list of ShopLocalOtsego subscribers each week for the following 3 months.  The direct mail piece is limited to the first 27 businesses enrolled and will be closed when filled later this month.  There will be a discount for those who enroll prior to October 13.  The email opportunity will be available as a separate option for businesses as well as additional target market regions throughout the area that will launch in 2015.

FB Ad Sample1Since marketing through traditional and modern media platforms can be overwhelming both in regards to costs and workload, this program leverages a significant cost benefit as well as full ‘done-for-you’ service to make things simple for the small business owner.  While it might be out of reach for one business to direct mail to an entire target market, this program allows multiple businesses to share the production and mailing costs, making the cost per business a very reasonable marketing investment.  In addition, because the program includes email marketing, the value of the opportunity extends beyond the delivery of the printed promotion.  Content plans, prepared in advance, allow for changing weekly messages/offers for shoplocalotsego.com shoppers.  Once the account is set up, the business owner doesn’t have to worry about anything to implement except for redeeming their offers.

All sign ups (shoppers and businesses) are taking place online at http://shoplocalotsego.com.  For more information contact Susan O’Handley at CNY Mobile Marketing, (607) 643-5680 or Joel Staples at Bishop Printshop, (607) 965-8155.
