Dairy Day at the Oneonta Farmers’ Market!

The Oneonta Farmers’ Market celebrates Dairy Month this Saturday, June 14th at the Main Street Plaza with free tastings of local dairy products including cow and goat milk cheeses by Sherman Hill Farmstead and sample scoops of Stewart’s Shops Ice Cream. Come meet the Otsego County Dairy Princess, find out how to get a tour of your local dairy farm and learn about Upstate New York State dairy farming.  The event is sponsored by Stewart’s Shops.

There will be free balloons and activities for children, including a petting corral at the Tauzel Farms vendor booth. The Tauzels will talk about milking and raising dairy cows, and children will have the chance to see and pet a live calf from their farm. Tastings begin at 10:00 am at the manager’s tent, hosted by the Otsego County Dairy Princess who will chat with visitors about history and importance of dairy farming in New York State. Try some spreadable chevre or hard cheeses by Sherman Hill Farmstead’s or a scoop of Stewart’s Shops Ice Cream, made with milk from Upstate New York farms. Local blues singer and guitarist, Mike Herman, will entertain the crowd with his acoustic finger-style blues, playing songs by blues and folk legends from Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan to Son House & Robert Johnson.  With a sound often compared to that of Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna, his performances dish out some of the finest finger-picking you’ll hear in these parts.Music begins at 10am.  Live performances at the farmers’ market are always free of charge to the public.

The Oneonta Farmers’ Market is held every Saturday throughout the season from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm at Oneonta’s Main Street Plaza under the white canopies right in front of the Clarion Hotel. Rain or shine! For more information call 607-437-0158, visit www.OneontaFarmersMarket.com, or ‘like’ us on facebook.
