Final Days for Exhibitions at Fenimore Art Museum
Fenimore closes for the season on December 31.
COOPERSTOWN, N.Y.—The year is coming to an end and so is the 2019 exhibition season at Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown. This is your last chance to view the museum’s current exhibitions which include the popular Heroines of Abstract Expressionism, Otsego On Ice: Histories of Wintertime Sport, Early American Face Jugs, and several others–on display through December 31.
Heroines of Abstract Expressionism offers visitors a special glimpse of a one-of-a-kind private collection of paintings, works on paper, and sculpture by women artists who pioneered Abstract Expressionism in the United States during the 1940s and 1950s. This group includes Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Joan Mitchell, and several others who made careers for themselves by embracing avant-garde painting. The collection offers the widest breadth of any private assemblage of this genre, featuring the works of 19 women artists.
Fenimore is the perfect destination over the holidays for families. Aside from our great exhibitions, visitors can see the museum decorated for the holidays, find one-of-a-kind holiday gifts in the Fenimore’s gift shop, and stay warm with a tasty, hot drink in the Fenimore Cafe.
The permanent collections are also on view and include the Thaw Collection of American Indian Art, The Coopers of Cooperstown, Fine Art from the Permanent Collection, and American Memory: Recalling the Past in Folk Art.
Fenimore Art Museum is located at 5798 State Route 80, less than one mile from the center of Cooperstown. For more information visit FenimoreArt.org. Open Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. through December 31 (closed Mondays and Christmas Day).
