On Wednesday July 9 and Wednesday July 16, the Greater Oneonta Historical Society is offering “Main Street Memories Walks”.
A couple years back we found that these informal and leisurely walks were a great opportunity to reminisce about the past, but also
reflect on the present, and propose ideas for the future. The July 9 walk will cover Main Street east of Dietz Street and the July 16
walk Main Street west of Dietz.
I hope that you join us for one or both of the walks. Meet in front of the Oneonta History Center at 7:00 PM for the hour-long walks.
It’s free.
Thanks for considering it.

Herbal Remedies at The Farmers’ Museum during Step Back in Time Weekend
Step Back in Time Weekend: Herbal Remedies
July 12-13, 2014, from 10 am–5 pm
Cooperstown, NY — July 4, 2014 — Discover the plants and herbs that keep us happy and healthy at The Farmers’ Museum on Saturday and Sunday, July 12-13. During Step Back in Time: Herbal Remedies Weekend, learn about patent medicines and ingredients to make home remedies, take a workshop, and tour the herb garden with our expert.
Roll up your sleeves and make your own herbal sachet, or perhaps grind herbs to be used to prepare medicine. In the blacksmith shop, watch laboratory equipment take shape.
Workshops will be highlights of the weekend. On Saturday at 1:00 pm, learn to improve your wellness and nutrition from Marguerite Uhlmann-Bower, herbalist, R.N., and outdoors educator of Weeds, Leaves, Seeds & Shoots, a nature-oriented wellness program with workshops on wild-crafting and wild foods foraging.
The workshop on Sunday at 1:00 pm is “Herbal Allies for the Dog Days of Summer,” featuring common plants that help ease the insect bites, sunburns, cuts, and rashes of summer (led by Judith Millar, herbalist, Sacred Ground Herbals).
Life in 1845 continues throughout the museum’s historic village and farmstead. Don’t miss the Empire State Carousel, the museum you can ride, and the Children’s Barnyard with its baby sheep, goats, and other animals.
Herbal Remedies Weekend is a way to experience history first-hand at the museum, bringing the past to life and enriching our lives today. The weekend is sponsored by Cooperstown Natural Foods and NBT Bank.
All Step Back in Time Weekends are held at the museum from 10:00 am–5:00 pm. Entry is included in the museum admission: Adults and juniors (13-64): $12.00; seniors (65+): $10.50; youth (7-12): $6.00; children (6 and under): Free.
